December 11, 2008, was the 4th session of the Washita Valley Leadership Program. The agenda included a trip to the Great Plains Correctional Facility, lunch at the Sugar Creek Golf Course, and a driving tour of the Hinton community (including Red Rock Canyon State Park). Some class members weren't able to attend due to illnesses or family emergencies, and they were missed. However, those that were able to go on the tour enjoyed the day and learned a great deal about economic development and small communities.
Those attending were Laurie, Conni, Joe, Greg, Jake, Ranel, Heidi, Sherry, Diane, Pam, James, Angela, Staci, Cindy and Kem. David was a great driver and got us home safely and quickly. See you next time at the January 15, 2009, Youth and Education Class!

Session 1, Class XV

The first session of WVLP for class 15 was a success! Laurie started us out by being the facilitator for the day and then we were off to a dynamic learning experience with Gary Richetto.

Some additional pictures for the day:

Gary helps Conni as she works through her leadership style inventory.

Ranel and Beverly working together in the DISC assessment.

In the teambuilding exercise, Paula's team tried to "survive in the desert."

Judging from the evaluations at the end of the day, everyone enjoyed the class and the networking experience. Of the 19 class members, 17 were able to attend, and the two who weren't able to be there will be joining us for the agriculture tour next month. It will be a full and exciting day. Wear your walking shoes!

WVLP Class XV

Welcome to the Washita Valley Leadership Program blog

I'm Cindy Murphy, the new coordinator for the Washita Valley Leadership Program. Though I may be new to this job, I've been around for a while. I was a language arts instructor in the Fort Cobb-Broxton school system for 16 years before I took a position at Caddo Kiowa Technology Center ten years ago. At CKTC, I have taught communications classes, developed the youth leadership program (Points of Light Youth Leadership Institute, or PYLI), written grants, and coordinated a Workforce program for youth on campus. I am an alumnus of WVLP and am thrilled to be picking up the program where Wendi Ferrell left off.

Our first class meeting will be held on September 11, 2008, in the Panther Room on campus at the Caddo Kiowa Technology Center. We'll begin at 8:00 a.m. and wrap up somewhere around 4:00. The featured speaker and presenter will be Dr. Gary Richetto of Triad Associates. He is a dynamic and informative presenter, and has some very insightful information to share with us on leadership and personality styles. He covers a wide variety of topics and activities and the class promises to be fast-paced and fun!
